The darker side of the academy is an initiative, taken by different groups of the Academy of fine arts Vienna, which wants to expose the precarious condition on which most of the non-european students find themselves, though they are studying in one of the most privileged institution of Europe. The intention is to deconstruct the vision of what it means to study in an art school and to make visible and to contets the discrmination that are still part of an institution that presents itself as critical and progressive.
This initiative is developed in particular from those who are affected by this discriminatory practises and structures and that feel the necessity to engage politically through a process of self-determination.
